Welcome to Introduction to Yearbook Production.  We are looking forward to an exciting year. 

We will produce the Mililani Middle School.


This course is designed to develop students’ skills in yearbook production by providing experiences in selected aspects of yearbook production.  Students learn basic principals of yearbook production and develop skills that include writing copy, captions and headlines; digital photography; desktop publishing and using appropriate technology tools for media production.


The school yearbook will be completed by March.

During the remainder of the school year, the students will use their yearbook production skills to create a personal yearbook.


Yearbook Production supports student’s development as writers, photographers, editors, independent users of technology and as responsible contributing members of the Mililani Middle School community.


Requirements:

Attend classes as scheduled (on time)

Complete yearbook activities as assigned

Turn in all assignments (on time)

Meet yearbook publication deadlines

Have a positive attitude toward learning

When absent, it is the student’s responsibility to complete missed work


All school and track rules, procedures, and grading policies apply in this course.


Please note that yearbook staffers may be asked to spend extra time during lunch, before and after school, and during intersessions to help the publication meet the strict deadlines set by the publisher.


Content Standards

Technology – Standard 3

Technology as a tool for productivity – students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.  Students use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology enhanced models, preparing publications, and producing other creative works.

-students will use digital cameras, media computers, and scanners to produce the yearbook


Standard 4

Technology as a tool for communications – students use technology to communicate, collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and other audiences.  Students use a variety of media and formats to communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences.

-students will use the following programs to produce the yearbook: Adobe InDesign CS4, Photoshop CS4, Apple iPhoto.


Language Arts – Standard 5

Writing Range – write using various forms to communicate for a variety of purposes and audiences

Students will use writing processes and strategies appropriately and as

needed to construct meaning and communicate effectively

    -students will write “copy” and “captions” for the yearbook
